In a testament to the hard work and dedication of the members of Local Lodge 2741, District 19 recently celebrated the promotion of 31 members to the next machinist grade at Alstom, a leading manufacturer in the rail transport industry. This achievement not only recognizes the skills and expertise of these individuals but also highlights the positive impact of union representation in securing fair compensation for workers. District 19 along with L.L. 2741 stepped in to address a concerning issue at Alstom, where the company had violated the terms of the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) by failing to promote its members. This intervention was crucial in ensuring that these workers received the promotions and fair compensation they were entitled to. When Alstom failed to adhere to the CBA and neglected to promote its deserving members, District 19 and L.L. 2741 took action to protect the rights of its members. General Chairman Shaun O’Connor said, “District 19 and L.L. 2741 are committed to continuing their work to support and empower workers in the manufacturing industry, ensuring that their contributions are recognized and valued. The promotions and wage recovery are a testimony to the strength and solidarity of our members at Alstom, demonstrating that when workers come together, they can achieve great things.” District 19 and L.L. 2741’s efforts have resulted in the recovery of $22,000 in wages for its members at Alstom. Through diligent negotiations and advocacy, the union was able to ensure that these workers received the compensation they rightfully deserved, underscoring the importance of collective bargaining in protecting the rights and interests of workers. This achievement serves as a reminder of the vital role that unions play in advocating for fair treatment and compensation in the workplace. By standing together and speaking with one voice, workers can achieve meaningful change and secure a better future for themselves and their families.
